Odis Durward Crowell age 88 of Dallas, Texas died on Monday, August 19, 2013 at the Sam Rayburn Memorial Veteran Center in Bonham, Texas. He was born in Fairlie, Texas to Odis McKinley and Eva Ruth Tucker Crowell. He married Dewena Jane Isom in Como, Texas on July 30, 1945 and she survives.
Mr. Crowell was a member of the Baptist faith and was baptized at the age of ten at the Fairlie Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during WWII with the 7th Armored Division . He achieved the rank of Private First Class and served in Rhineland Campaign and was awarded American Theater Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal and a Purple Heart. Prior to serving in the military Odis built planes for North American Aviation. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, painting, and building bird houses and was an active member of the NRA. The only thing he enjoyed better than riding his motorcycle was the countless hours he spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Dewena “Dency” Crowell, sons Odis Conrad Crowell and wife Denice of Rockwall, and Patric Isom Crowell of Mesquite, five grandchildren Amber, Josh, Axton, Sean, Courtney, and one great-grandson Ayden, and sister Thelma Ruth Montgomery.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at R. W. Owens & Son Funeral Home in Wolfe City, Texas with Brother Tim Hearn officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City with Conrad Crowell, Patric Crowell, Josh Crowell, Sean Crowell, Richie Rees, and Richard Nash serving as pallbearers. Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Hunt County Veterans Honor Guard.
