July 29, 1922 – June 3, 2011 Allen Barker, 88, of Greenville died June 3, 2011, at the home of his daughter following a lengthy illness. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Wesley Methodist Church in Greenville. Burial will be in Memoryland Cemetery in Greenville.
Visitation is set from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home in Wolfe City.
Pallbearers will be Jim Lloyd, John Lloyd, Dan Farell, Robert Barker, Dale Barker and Tom Castleberry.
He was born July 29, 1922, in Fairlie to James Franklin and Maude Turner Barker. He married Nora Ree Spigner on July 16, 1951, in Fairlie.
Mr. Barker served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired executive in business machine sales. He was a member of 32nd Tannehill Lodge 52 in Dallas, 33rd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite, Dallas Valley Hella Temple, Sons of the American Revolution and China-Burma-India Veterans Association and VFW member.
Survivors include a son, Mike Barker and wife DeAnne of McKinney; a daughter, Brenda Sue Yancey of Greenville; two granddaughters, Kristin Hames and husband Greg of Plano and Amy Elizabeth Barker of Richardson; two grandsons, Jeremy Allen Yancey and wife Amber of Greenville, S.C., and Christopher David Yancey of Greenville; three sisters, Maurene Stepter, Ura Lee Farell and Lucille Lloyd; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his wife, parents, four brothers, two sisters and grandson Zackary Yancey.
