John began working at an early age to help support his mother and sisters. He had a newspaper route and worked at a service station while he attended high school. After graduating from Sherman High School in 1957, he worked on a seismograph crew for oil exploration. He joined the United States Air Force in July of 1960 and was stationed at Biggs Field in El Paso and was also deployed to Germany. John served with honor and was discharged in July of 1964. He went to work for the El Paso electric company in 1964 and continued there until they went on strike in 1974. Shortly after, he moved his family to Pottsboro, TX. He was hired at the Sam Rayburn VA Hospital as the boiler plant supervisor. He gave the VA twenty-two years of service, retiring in 1997. John also served on the Pottsboro City Council for several years.
John enjoyed playing basketball all through school. As an adult, he was an avid golfer, loved softball and was a tough competitor in cards and boardgames. He was always up for a pickup game of ball or horse if you were willing to lose. He volunteered and coached several little league baseball and basketball teams in support of his children. He loved to fish and hunt, though his last couple of years at hunting camp he did not bother to take a gun because he was there for the friendship and comradery. He passed his love of sports, golf especially, to his kids & grandkids. They will continue to chase his hole-in-one record, an astounding three!!
He is survived by his wife Tina, his mother-in-law Helen Justice, children: Tracy Fisher of Sherman, Bo Fisher and wife Sonya of Prosper, Tammy Mulholland and husband Mark of Kennewick, WA. He was a precious, loving, giving and caring brother throughout his life. He loved people, he loved life and found joy in helping people. He was one of a very special kind of person. I love you John and will miss your sweet smile.
Love you always, Joycee
Tina, John will be missed by so many… he was truly your kindred spirit! He touched so many lives at work and on the golf course… he loved and enjoyed life, to the fullest, no matter what he was doing. He was a great role model! He was kind and compassionate, and was always there for his friends & family. I’m sure Larry has met him at the golden gate already and if there is golf in Heaven, I bet we could find them both on the back nine! Until we see them again my friend, remember I’m right down the road! Hugs girlfriend and prayers for comfort and peace.
Uncle John always had a smile and caring word. He was fun to be around and had a presence of quiet strength. He loved his family. May God’s peace comfort you through your grief. Our love to you.
I treasure all the memories our family built with you and your family Johnny. Lake Texoma, the swing in your yard, and the friendship my dad valued so much! I hope you and Dad are playing golf every day and watching over us all! Sending love and prayers for your family and friends.

I loved Uncle John so much. I still remember a weekend Susan and I spent with ya’ll in Pottsboro. Uncle John decided we should play softball. I had never played but he was so patient and I still remember the look on his face as he pitched me the ball with a look of encouragement. He was a sweet man and a great dad to you guys. He will be missed.
A very fine man, a gentleman, generous, happy fun loving, and I thought the world of him. My number is 903-640-3124. When you have time call me and we’ll do lunch and visit. Love you too Tina.
