Louis Iven Swinson, age 89, of Fairlie, Texas, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014 at his home. He was born August 5, 1924 to Charles Memory and Rosa Reeves Swinson in Wolfe City. He married Ruth Rogene Speight on January 2, 1945 in Commerce.

Mr. Swinson attended the Church of Christ and worked as a rancher and dairy farmer for many years. He served honorably in the U S Army in the European Theater during World War II.

He is survived by his 8 children: Larry Wayne (Kathy) Swinson of Pearland, James Louis (Sharron) Swinson of Fairfield, Ronnie Ray (Sandra) Swinson of Wolfe City, Lanny Jack (Darlene) Swinson of Wolfe City, Linda Jean (Buzz) Malone of Wolfe City, Randy Joe (Judy) Swinson of Fairlie, Roger Dale (Dorothy) Swinson of Palestine, Theresa Ann (Bill) Shamburger of Fairfield, 19 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, parents, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 7 from 6 to 8 pm at R. W. Owens and Son Funeral Chapel in Wolfe City.

The service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 8, at Crosstrails Cowboy Church in Fairlie officiated by David Gibson and Greg Horn. Interment will follow in Sonora Cemetery in Fairlie with Rodney Swinson, Cody Malone, Chad Swinson, Gaylen Swinson, Shane Swinson, Wade Swinson, Kyle Swinson, Cole Swinson and Cory Shamburger serving as pallbearers. The great-grandsons will be serving as honorary pallbearers.
