Ronnie Wayne Kirkwood, affectionately known as Gramps and Pops, passed away peacefully at his home in Wolfe City on November 11, 2024, at the age of 79. He was born on June 17, 1945, to Walter Raymond and Estelle Carter Kirkwood in Dallas, Texas. Ronnie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He loved his family deeply and cherished the time spent with them, always making sure to light up any room he walked into with his infectious smile and warm presence.
Ronnie was the owner and operator of Kirkwood Upholstery for 30 years before retiring after 10 years with Andrews Distributing. He enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, cruising, and spending time at the casino. Above all, he found his greatest joy in being surrounded by his family and friends. He never missed an opportunity to show how much he loved and cared for those around him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Jobe Kirkwood, and children: Kjersti Spangler and husband Kenneth, Shayne Kirkwood, Darci Lowery and husband Jason, Julie Box and husband Matt, and Cory Peel and wife Cammie. Ronnie also leaves behind 11 grandchildren: Anna and husband Chris, Kati, Ryan and wife Cierra, Reid, Ethan, Emma, DJ, Jetson, Addison, Quinn, and Aubrey, as well as three great-grandchildren: Kynlee, Preslee, and Max.
He is also survived by his brother, Ray “Sonnie” Kirkwood and wife Holly; his brother-in-law, Mike Durham; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Linda Durham, and his brother Tommy Kirkwood.
Ronnie will be remembered for his loving heart, his unwavering devotion to his family, and his ability to bring joy to every moment spent with those he loved. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of life will be held at Kearney’s Feed Yard in Sunnyvale on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at 1:00 PM.
