On Wednesday, March 23, 2022, Sam Renner, of Greenville, Texas, passed away at the age of 83 surrounded by his loving family.  Graveside services will be held at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City, Texas on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 12:00 P.M.

Sam was born on May 21, 1938, in Irving, Texas. He was the son of Herbert Bryan Renner, Sr. and Ruth High Renner. He lived in Dallas, Texas and attended Sunset High School. Sam served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1957 until 1963. Sam was employed by Sears, Roebuck and Co. as a service technician and retired in 1984 when the Greenville Sears Appliance Center closed its doors. After the service center closed, he was self-employed as an appliance repairman where he served Greenville and surrounding areas. Sam is remembered as being friendly, kind and caring and would often work for fresh vegetables or homemade pies.

Over the years, Sam faithfully attended the Church of Christ and served the Lord in many capacities.  He served as deacon, bible class teacher, assisted the World Bible School mission, delivered meals and communion to shut-ins and drove the church van to pick up the elderly. Sam loved the Lord and worshiped at the Creekside (formerly Johnson Street) Church of Christ.

Sam enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing, playing cards and dominoes and traveling with his wife, Jo, to spend time with friends in Fun Valley, Colorado.

To his daughters, Daddy was a man who could and would do anything. He would drive five hours to work on a washing machine, pack you up and move you from house to house, stone a fireplace, shred a pasture, paint, hang sheetrock, pour concrete and build an adorable cottage playhouse just for his girls.

As Granddaddy, aka G-daddy, he would gladly stay home and keep his grandchildren when they were sick. He loved when they rode the school bus to his house and would greet them with warm cookies, orange cream yogurt and apple slices. He taught them to fish, camp, work puzzles, play games, and always let them be in charge of the TV remote.

Sam was known for his big heart and sweet disposition. Despite his health challenges, he never lost his smile, sense of humor or his faith. The staff at Briarcliff Health Center became his second family and loved him dearly as he loved them.

Sam was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers, Bryan, Ben and High, and son, Greg Phifer.  He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Jo Carolyn Bower Renner; daughters, Sami Danell Hartford and husband David, Stacy Bowe and husband Carter, Shayla Lewis and husband Matthew; son, Mark Phifer; his grandchildren, Aja Hartford, Bayli Hartford Parr, Trey Trentham, Haley Trentham Snider, Morgan Lewis Beath, Caden Lewis; and his great-grandchildren, Londra, Charles, Atlas, Channing, Brecken and Huxley; sister, Dawn Renner Harris and many beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Pallbearers: Mark Phifer, David Hartford, Carter Bowe, Matthew Lewis, Aja Hartford, Trey Trentham, Boe Parr, Evan Snider and Caden Lewis
