Bobby Glen Maples, 77, of Wolfe City passed away Wednesday, November 8th at his residence. Mr. Maples was born on May 10, 1940 in Caddo Mills, TX. to William Douglas “Mutt” Maples and Mackie Lee Reneau Maples. He married Linda Walker on August 22, 1959. He moved his family back to Wolfe City to go into partnership with his dad as owners of Maples Construction Company. Throughout the years, their business included dirt- hauling, gravel, building driveways, septic tank installations, and digging graves for Owens Funeral Home. In a small town without a lot of retail businesses, Maples Construction became Maples Construction & Appliance offering plumbing supplies and repair, along with selling all types of appliances.
He graduated from Wolfe City High School in 1958 where he lettered in all sports all four years of high school. A strong supporter of Wolfe City Athletic Club, he was a member of the booster club and ran the clock at all home football games for many years.

As a member of the First Baptist Church, he served as deacon for over 25 years. Bobby also was a bus driver, usher, and on various committees at FBC. He loved listening to his audiobook tapes of the Bible.

Bobby served on the Wolfe City Volunteer Fire Department for almost 30 years. During those years, he served in multiple offices including Fire Chief. In 1990 he was given the award of Outstanding and Dedicated Service.

As a member of the Wolfe City Riding Club, he served as a Director helping produce a Junior Rodeo in May and the big rodeo in August, as well as the Wolfe City parade. His love of horses and always being involved in his girls’ life activities led to Director of the Wolfe City Drill Team. He led 20+ youth each summer taking them to multiple rodeos every weekend in a caravan of trucks and horse trailers. This was a family affair with him making sure his parents had their own horses loaded on each rodeo trip.

Survivors are Linda, his wife of 58 years, of Wolfe City, 2-daughters; Glenna Kelley and husband Al; Cindy Oliver and husband Larry. Grandchildren; Roxanne Toeplitz & husband Wade, Leah Cox & fiancé Justin Waddle, Josh Smith & wife Natalie, Jarred Oliver & wife Molly, Justin Oliver & wife Kaci, Kurt Kelley & wife Rachael, Kendall Kelley, Kyle Kelley. 15 Great Grandchildren and one sister, Betty Smith along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Buddy Maples.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, November 12 at the First Baptist Church in Wolfe City, conducted by Bro. Tim Hearn and Bro. Marc Gibson. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel in Wolfe City. Visitation will be at the R. W. Owens & Son Funeral Home in Wolfe City from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Saturday, November 11th. Pallbearers will be his Grandsons and Honorary Pallbearers Robert Wasson, Jackie Walton, Joe Morrow, along with the Wolfe City Volunteer Fire Dept.
