LaVerne McKay Smith, age 89, passed peacefully on to her Heavenly home on Saturday, April 7, 2018, while surrounded by her children and beloved pastor and wife, Kerry and Susan Meador.
She was born September 19, 1928 to Boyd and Eula Girdner Smith in Hunt County, Texas. After graduating from Greenville, High School, LaVerne married Gerald Dean McKay on May 26, 1946 in Savoy. They were long time members of Aberfoyle Baptist Church. LaVerne was a happy and optimistic spirit who created a wonderful life for all around her, bringing smiles to everyone.
LaVerne will be missed by many friends and relatives who will remember her for her faith, kindness, hospitality, and love of family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Gerald Dean, her grandson Barry Arnold, her parents and siblings.
LaVerne is survived by daughters Marqueta Poteet (Randy), Anna Beth Arnold (Jackie), son Ray Dean McKay (Teresia), grandchildren: Mardi Johnson (Jimmy), Rowdy Poteet (Brooke) Kelly McKay (Julie), Kortney Vaughan (Dan) Kalum McKay (Shelbie), 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors at Owens Funeral Chapel, in Wolfe City on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 from 6 to 8:00 P.M. A Celebration of Life service will be Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church, Wolfe City. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City.
