October 8, 1937 –  February 24, 2017 Louie Gene Monroe passed away February 24, 2017 after a brief illness. He was born to Louie “Gabe” and Elizabeth Phillips Monroe on October 8, 1937 in Sherman. He married Jean Hill, on October 5, 1957 in Wolfe City.
He retired from Central Freight Lines. Gene was a long standing and active member of the Board of Directors of Mt. Carmel Cemetery. He was often seen working at the cemetery or supervising the grounds crew as they went about their daily tasks of keeping the cemetery beautiful. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Wolfe City.

He is survived by his wife Jean, 2 sons: Barry Monroe of Arlington, and Marty and wife Julie Monroe of Rancho Santa Fe, California, granddaughter Deanna Tolley, 1 brother Dwayne and wife Lenore Monroe of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 1 sister Nina Faye Wisdom of Wolfe City. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Treva Wallace.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Wisdom, Mark Wisdom, Larry Monroe, Gary Monroe, Randy Monroe, and Matthew Sifuentes.

The funeral will be at First Baptist Church in Wolfe City on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 2:00 P. M. with Brother Tim Hearn officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P. M. at R. W. Owens Funeral Home Saturday, February 25, 2017.
