Louis Edward Loomis, age 97, passed away at his home on March 3, 2021, in Commerce, Texas.  He was born January 25, 1924 to Oscar and Emma Free Loomis in Hamilton, Ohio.

He married Gloria Sather, September 2, 1978 and together built a life of happy memories.

Louie was a veteran of the Navy and worked as an electrical engineer from the time he was discharged until he retired.  He was able to see much of the world because of his service in the Navy and his career.  He has visited all fifty states, he owned a plane and was a pilot, and enjoyed hunting in Colorado.  After meeting Gloria, they continued traveling the country as well as enjoying many cruises.

Although he traveled the world and seen many places that most of us can only dream about, his favorite place was in Commerce.  He loved being at home with Gloria and working on their property: clearing the trees, constructing outbuildings, putting up new fences, and sitting by many campfires.

When Louie was no longer able to work outside, he spent his days sitting beside Gloria, his wife, companion, friend, his love, looking out the window at their property.

He is survived by his wife and love of 43 years, his truck driver stepson, Danny, his friend who was like a daughter, Cheri.  His memory will be cherished by his closest family and friends including: Donny and Sue who he made many a memories with. The best possible neighbors ever, Mike and Mary Ann, his loving sister Virginia, special niece Cindy and her husband John, and his nephew Fred and his wife Mary Ann. And many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his stepson Billy, parents, Oscar and Emma and siblings: Dorothy, Gert, Bob, Paul, and Mearl.

We would like to extend a special thank you to all of the nurses and home health care workers that made Louie’s life at home possible and pleasant.
