Funeral service for Mildred Lucille Woodruff, 95, of Greenville is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at First United Methodist Church in Wolfe City with the Rev. Paul Gould officiating. Visitation will be at 1 p.m., before the funeral service, at First United Methodist Church in Wolfe City. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City under the direction of R.W. Owens and Son Funeral Home of Wolfe City.

Mrs. Woodruff went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2017, at Harrison House Senior Community in Greenville. She was born May 15, 1922, in Greenville, to George and Era (Ferguson) Proctor. Mildred graduated from Greenville High School in 1940, where she was a member of the Flaming Flashes Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Future Homemakers of America. She also attended Greenville Business College.

On Oct. 6, 1940, Mildred married the love of her life, James Thurman Woodruff, at the Wesley Street location of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Greenville. After living in Greenville, Tyler and Corpus Christi, the couple settled in Wolfe City where they raised their two sons. Together the Woodruffs owned and operated Woody’s Food Store in Wolfe City, and were co-owners of Woody’s Superettes and Mr. Minit convenience stores in Commerce. Mrs. Woodruff was also very active in civic and church activities in Wolfe City before moving to Greenville. She and Woody are lifelong members at the First United Methodist Church in Wolfe City and have been married 77 years.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Georgia Grace Proctor and Mary Francis Carrington.

She leaves behind her loving family which includes her husband, J.T. “Woody” Woodruff of Greenville; sons Jim Woodruff and wife Rosemary of Greenville, and Jon Woodruff and wife Mary of McKinney; grandchildren Misty Woodruff, James Woodruff and wife Tish, Melanie and husband David Prda, Jason Woodruff and wife Carol, Taylor Woodruff and wife Naomi, Marshall Woodruff and wife Jaime, and Austin Woodruff and Amanda Woodruff; great-grandchildren Wesley Mahand and wife Kaye-Lin, Brady Mahand, Jake Woodruff, Jackson Woodruff, Nate Woodruff, Nicholas Prda, Grace Prda, Bryan Wynn and Nicholas Wynn; niece Kay Cook; and numerous extended family members and friends.
