June 13, 1916 –  September 22, 2011 Evans,
Ralph Harrell Evans Sr. age 95 of Celeste, Texas died Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Legend Health Care in Greenville, Texas. He was born to Grady Evans and Kate Fitzwater Evans on June 13, 1916 in Utica, Oklahoma.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 23, 2011 at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home in Wolfe City, from 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church Celeste Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. James Ralson and Bro. Jim Sherwin officiating. Burial will follow at Hogeye Cemetery in Celeste with Mr. Evans’s grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Mr. Evans married Winnie Joyce Duncan on September 7, 1940 in Leonard, Texas. Ralph was very active with The Masonic Lodge serving as a Past Master of the Miller Lodge of Celeste, District Deputy for District Eight. He owned Evans & Son Grocery Store from 1947 – 1961 and later in life was a rancher. He served as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church and was a member for 82 years. Ralph was dedicated to the Celeste Community; he was a school board trustee; he was a leader at the Celeste Senior Adult Community Center, and was caretaker for the Celeste Cemetery Association. This involvement and love for Celeste and the Hogeye community stemmed from the fact that his family had lived in the area since 1891.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years Winnie Joyce Duncan Evans of Celeste, four sons; Ralph Evans Jr. and wife Lou of Celeste, Donnie Evans and wife Pam of Celeste, Bill Evans of Como, and Garland Evans and wife Patty of Celeste, daughter Michele Scoggins and husband Mark of Leonard, grandchildren; Ray & Rhonda Evans, Eric and Abi Evans, Jared and Jacquelyn Evans, Andy Evans, Clay Evans, Laine and Tommy Randack, Jason and Angie Evans, Brian Evans, Chris & Laura Evans, Kirsten Evans and 15 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Eugene Evans, three sisters Ela Mona Wright, Ruth Wright, and Emma Jo Purcell.
