November 22, 1912 – October 4, 2011 Verdis Asalee Denney Payne, 98, longtime Wolfe City resident died Oct. 4, 2011, at Laurenwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Duncanville.
She was born Nov. 22, 1912, in Wolfe City to George T. and Nora Bell Stidham Denney. She married Roy Lee Payne on Nov. 18, 1931, in Wolfe City. Mrs. Payne worked many years at Henington Publishing Company and Studio and was a homemaker. She was a longtime faithful member of the Church of Christ and was a current member of West Main Church of Christ.
Surviving are a sister, Eva Daniel and husband Jimmy of Dallas; nephews Arvie Turner and wife Sylvia of Greenville, Marion Turner and wife Kay of Kilgore, Randy Pittard and wife Diane of Midlothian, Gene Pittard and wife Jaton of Oak Leaf, Mark Daniel of Grand Prairie and Scott Daniel of Irving; her niece, Susan Patten and husband Norman of Cedar Hill; and several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Don, and sisters Laureta Turner and Emma Jean Pittard.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 6, 2011 at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home in Wolfe City, Texas with A.C. Quinn and Steven Medford officiating. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery in
Wolfe City, Texas.
