Viola Thornton age 90 of Irving, Texas passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Baylor Medical Center at Irving. She was born in the White Rock Community of Hunt County on May 5, 1921 to Melvin Vanhoozer and Nellie Green Vanhoozer. She married Shelby E. Thornton on November 27, 1941 in Wolfe City. Viola was a member of First Baptist Church of Irving. She is survived by her husband of 69 years Shelby E. Thornton, daughter Judy Hawkins of Grapevine, two grandchildren Kristie Belew of Springdale, Ark. and Donna Ray of Palm Springs, Fla. two great-grandchildren Whitney Phillips, and Shelby Henson, one sister Alyne Devers of Celeste and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother Sam Vanhoozer. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 1:00 at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Chapel in Wolfe City with Dr. Kevin Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City, with Mrs. Thornton’s Nephews serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 22, 2011 from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Chapel in Wolfe City.
