Shirley Ann Reid Cates, age 89, of Wylie, Texas, passed away March 17, 2026, in Wylie, Texas. She was born June 20, 1936, in Princeton, Texas to Leslie Vivian (L.V.) and Ida Mae (Hankey) Reid.

She married Herschel Lanier (Jack) Cates on August 20, 1960, in West Memphis, Arkansas. Together they had two children.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, H.L. (Jack) Cates; her parents, L.V. and Ida Reid; two sisters, Louise Tucker and Wanda Williams; and two brothers, Dalroy Reid and Wallace Reid. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Cates, and her son, John Cates, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held at Ridgeview memorial park at Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 1:00PM.
