Wolfe City, Texas – Theta Nell Culverhouse, 86, of Wolfe City, Texas was born on November 17, 1937 in Wagner, Texas to Oran (Bud) Thomason & Lois (Jones) Thomason.  She passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Theta married her childhood sweetheart, Richard Lee Crowell at the age of 16.  Richard preceded her in death on November 15, 1986. She married Darrell Culverhouse in 1990 and he preceded her in death in 2012.  Theta was many things:  a devout Christian, mother, housewife, farmer, muffler woman, seamstress, and machine operator.  She enjoyed her family, babies, mowing her pastures, horses, music, love stories, moving furniture, swimming in secluded spots, camping in her camper, traveling, fried catfish, cherry chocolate cake, Hershey’s chocolates, and catching up with lifelong friends by telephone.

She is survived by her daughter, Tina Callahan and husband, Ron Callahan of Dodd City; daughter, Holly Smith and husband, James Smith of Greenville; son, Brady Crowell and wife, Suzy Crowell of Wolfe City; stepchildren, (Culverhouse) Kathy, Lyn, and Sam; grandchildren, Michelle Griffith, Matthew Wyche, Amanda Shepard, Michael Callahan, Drew Callahan, Richy Crowell, Jesse Crowell, Zack White; fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Tommy Thomason and sister-in-law Wanda Thomason of Garland; sister-in-law, Paula Chamberlain and husband, Paul; and several special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Richard Crowell; husband, Darrell Culverhouse, father, Oran Thomason; mother, Lois Thomason; and great-granddaughter, Everlee Crowell.

A visitation will be held at RW Owens Funeral Home in Wolfe City, Texas on Monday, January 1, 2024 from 5-7:00pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Mt. Carmel Cemetery Chapel in Wolfe City, Texas at 2:00pm. Burial to follow the service at the cemetery.
